How Do You Tell If A Baby Has A Yeast Infection?
my son is 9 months old, and he has been on the antibiotic Augmentin for an ear infection. The doctor told me that this antibiotic causes bad yeast infections. He has been pooping like crazy (I guess form the antibiotic) and his bottom is very red. I have been keeping desitin on it around the clock, and he has never had more than a mild diaper rash before. What does a yeast infection on a baby look like, and what do you use to treat it?

a yeast-based diaper rash is red and bumpy, will quickly ulcerate (become raw and bleeding).
instead of desitin, switch to canesten (clotrimazole) or monistat (miconazole) to keep the yeast in check.
make sure he gets lots of active bacterial culture yoghurt in his diet – it will soothe his GI tract and help replenish the beneficial bacteria that get killed along with the malignant ones.

I just had this problem with my daughter who is 7 weeks old. Her bottom was extremely red and getting raw, it also had small spots almost like chicken pox. My doctor prescribed her Nystatin cream, and it worked so well, she had the rash for about a week before i called the doctor and it was almost gone in about 4 days, but a noticeable difference after the first day. Hope this helps!

This is the website I used to see if my baby had the yeast diaper rash. Her butt looked simular to this picture so I bought some clotrimazole (athletes foot cream) and put it on her bottom twice a day and by day two, it was gone.

I found an excellent article on infant yeast infections. I do know that the most common ones among babies is thrush (in the mouth. )
I hope you find the article helpful.

The red bottom is a good indicator. Sometimes there will be little white spots within the redness. You may also see the small while bumps on his tongue. There is a thicker cream called Penaten Cream that works very well for this.
