Can A Yeast Infection Be Caused By Sanitary Napkins?

I think I have a yeast infection. . . . My period ended a day or two ago, and now there is some residual blood-like discharge mixed with what looks like cottage cheese. The blood is only apparent when I wipe after using the bathroom. Is it possible this was caused by wearing a sanitary napkin for too long? I wasn’t feeling well and slept for about 12 hours without changing my pad. Is it normal that this would occur in conjunction with my period? And is the only way to treat this with over the counter creams?

Yes it could, but it could be normal. Check yourself out in the mirror – if it looks normally and you have no discomfort I wouldn’t worry yet. I know the first time I got a bad yeast infection it was very visible (like white stuff attached to me) but that isn’t always the case. If you get itchy or the discharged continues get it checked out. It could be BV too, so I would go to the gyno to check out what it is (because the treatment for one can make the other worse). I got to the point where anything weird I went to the gyno and it was always BV or a yeast infection. I don’t like over the counter creams, they have only made it worse for me. I switched to using a menstrual cup and have been overall more careful about keeping myself clean and not allowing anything near me that could cause a problem and I haven’t had an infection in a year. Good luck ^_^.

You need to take this up with your doctor ASAP. You could have a yeast or bacterial infection, there is really no way to tell you over the internet hon, but a bacterial infection would require antibiotic treatment. btw. . . leaving a pad on for more than 6-8 hours is asking for trouble. Let your doctor help you sort this out before it gets worse. Take care.

Yes, it probably is some kind of infection, but I’m not positive it’s a yeast. Go to a doctor, they will be able to tell you what kind of infection it is.
